The board's plan is to close West River Parkway between Plymouth Avenue and 11st Street South, but will leave one lane open with access to the Stone Arch Bridge parking lot and 200 2nd Street South. Main Street SE will close between Hennepin Avenue and 3rd Ave SE with on lane staying open between 3rd and 6th Avenues.

Once the closures happen at 5 pm, parkway roads and walking paths will be dedicated to two-way pedestrian traffic and bike paths will remain as bike paths in their current direction.

Jono Cowgill, President of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board says:

“I am thrilled we’re able to open road and parkway segments next to our busy central riverfront park, and I look forward to announcing additional parkway closures soon. This has been a collaborative effort with the City of Minneapolis in response to the people we serve and their need for social distancing within parks and public spaces.”

The closures will stay in effect until the end of Governor Tim Walz's Stay At Home Executive Order on April 10th at 5 pm.
