UPDATE: Matthew Witt has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. According to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, Witt’s father told police that Matthew Witt suffered from mental health problems and that he allegedly attacked his parents "using only his fists."

A son is being held on probable cause murder after a woman is found dead and a man seriously injured in Maple Grove.

The victim is 68-year-old Elizabeth Witt, according to a Thursday afternoon press release from Maple Grove Police. The cause of death has not been released but it is being investigated as a homicide. Witt's husband, 71-year-old Geroge Witt, was found seriously injured in the couple's home on the 6600 block of Eagle Lake Boulevard Wednesday evening. He is now in stable condition.

Their son, 42-year old Matthew Witt, is being held, per Maple Grove PD, but has not been formally charged.

Rodney Bottenfield is the Witts' neighbor.

"They kept to themselves," he said. "I did have some interaction with them, but nothing on a very personal level. As far as I know they've been there the whole time I've been here at least, about 22, 23 years."

Officers were called to in a quiet neighborhood at 7:40 p.m. They found a man and a woman with severe head trauma. First responders began CPR on the woman, but she died at the scene.

The Hennepin County Crime Lab is assisting Maple Grove police in their homicide investigation.
