With the NHL preparing to resume their 2020 season, the Wild decided they had seen enough from interim Head Coach Dean Evason to drop the interim from his name. Evason was named interim Head Coach after the team fired long time coach Bruce Boudreau on February 14th. Evason has led the team to an 8-4-0 record and a resurgence that has given them a chance to make the playoffs.

"I am very excited to announce that Dean Evason is our full-time head coach," said Wild General Manager Bill Guerin. "Dean has done a fantastic job as our interim head coach and deserves this opportunity. I look forward to watching our team under his leadership going forward."

Evason came to the Wild in 2018 as an assistant under Bruce Boudreau. Prior to that, Evason was head coach of the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.

He was also an assistant coach for the Washington Capitals.

Evason played professional hockey for 18 seasons, including time with five different NHL teams.

The Wild on Monday began training at Tria Rink in St. Paul for the resumption of the NHL season.

There are 24 teams in the tournament, which starts off with play-in series with the surviving teams headed to the Stanley Cup first round playoffs.

On Aug. 2, the Wild take on Vancouver in a best-of-five series in Edmonton. The rest of the playoffs will be in the best four-of-seven format

Evason has signed with the club through the 2021-22 season. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
