Our favorite Super Bowl ads

One of the biggest surprises last night was how great the Super Bowl commercials were. For years, the shared opinion seemed to be that the quality was slipping, but this year changed that.

According to Ellie Anderson, Griffen Archer CEO, says that Super Bowl commercials are very important, but that there is a purpose.

"The Super Bowl is all about generating awareness."

What did the News Talk 830 WCCO Staff pick as their favorite ad last night? Here is the rundown:

Jordana Green - Host: T-Mobile

Bradley Cooper and his mom. My fave because it featured his mom and seemed genuine. It was sweet.

Adam Carter - Host, Brad Lane - Brand Manager: Dodge Ram

Adam: There were too many "nostalgic ads" so props to Dodge for this very funny and original ad.

Brad: Equally fun was the premature electrification spot for EV RAM pickups - so many double-entendres.

Jason DeRusha - Host, Steve Simpson - Anchor: Dunkin'

Jason: I love an ad with a surprise, and so the Dunkin ads with Ben Affleck hit the mark perfectly. It reminded me of an old Letterman gag where Dave would work a drive thru, but the Jennifer Lopez performance at the end was absolute perfection!

Steve: To see quintessential New-Englander Ben Affleck working the drive-thru of a Dunkin restaurant to the surprise of those he was serving, the Letterman-esque "bit" took a turn when his last "customer" was Jennifer Lopez asking him "what are you doing?"

That was the payoff, but in reality the payoff was when it was over, I knew what the ad was for. That's not always the case with me.

Dan Cook - Producer, Laura Oakes - Anchor: The Farmer's Dog

Dan - Farmer's Dog won the night, hands down. Any dog lover could relate to the unconditional love on display in that ad. Hit you right in the feels in the best of ways.

Laura: Dogs. Always dogs. More dogs.

Vineeta Sawkar - Host: Amazon

I loved the Amazon dog ad but somehow I missed the Farmer’s Dog ad. Just watched it. It’s my favorite. I get teary over those dog ads that tell a story. It was so sweet to see the dog through the years as the girl grew up. You can always hook me with a puppy or dog!

Dan Edwards - Digital Content Manager: Uber One

The Uber One spot with Diddy was brilliant. So much fun to throw back to some great songs. And the way Diddy doesn't take himself too seriously is hilarious.

Rusty Ray - Anchor, Laura Oakes - Anchor: Bud Light

Rusty: Surprising, simple, funny, not obnoxious, not abstract, not a product I've never heard of or will never need.

Laura: Because every wife in the land would love to be looked at the way he looks at her and dance like that around the living room. And it was so clever how they timed their dance breaks to the annoying hold messages we've all endured.

Brad Lane - Brand Manager: PopCorners

Breaking Bad-themed ad for PopCorners...GREAT homage/nod to the TV show, wonderful use of the characters to tout the snack.
