Add the PGA's 3M Open in Blaine among the sports entities asking Governor Walz for permission to admit fans.

The tournament was held without fans last year at the TPC course in Blaine because of the coronavirus pandemic.

PGA events throughout southern states like Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina are already allowing up to 10,000 fans per day, which is what the director of the 3M Open wants to see when the event happens this summer.

"The tour is being very cautious and working with all the federal and state entities to make sure that we don't create any issues, or create a super-spreader, or something," said 3M Open director Hollis Cavner on the WCCO Morning News with Dave Lee.

The 10,000-fan limit is part of the COVID-safe plan for the 3M Open already in place.

"When you're outside on 250 to 300 acres, 10,000 people is not a lot," said Cavner. "We are still requiring masks, and things like that."

The 3M Open is scheduled for the week of July 19 at the TPC Twin Cities course, with the first of four rounds teeing off on July 23.

Michael Thompson is defending champion after Matthew Wolff won the inaugural event in 2019, the first regular stop of the PGA Tour in Minnesota since 1969.
