Temperatures are expected in the 90's next week, and officials with the 3M Open golf tournament are doing what they can to make sure people can enjoy the golf despite the heat.
Tournament officials are working to install misting stations throughout the course to help people deal with the high temperatures predicted. The first round of the 3M Open is on Thursday, with the final round coming Sunday. Currently, Thursday's high is predicted to be 95.
Tournament director Mike Welch says there will be spots that spectators can cool off.
"We are talking to the City of Blaine and Anoka County about having misting stations sporadically throughout the course," says Welch. "You know, and I would just say from our standpoint we want everybody to be safe, but we also want folks to embrace Minnesota summers."
Welch told Adam Carter on the WCCO Morning News that 15-time PGA Tour winner Justin Thomas has committed to play in the tournament next week at TPC Blaine.
Welch adds that ten of the world's top 40 players are coming to Minnesota at a time when it's tough to get golfers to play in a tournament. Most of the top players are currently at Royal Liverpool in England for The Open Championship.
"The week after the Open Championship, it's not easy getting the players that you want," says Welch. "But we feel really good about what our field is this year."
Tickets for the 3M Open are available here. Last year's winner Tony Finau is expected to be there to defend his championship as will 2021 champ Cameron Champ.
