
It’s been a very difficult stretch for the Gopher men’s basketball team, and that is getting more complicated after today. The Gopher game scheduled for Tuesday at Illinois will now be postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols within the Golden Gopher program.
According to the Star Tribune, the decision to postpone the game after Monday's practice before the team travelled to Illinois.
According to the University, the Gophers, Illinois and the Big Ten Conference will work together to identify possible rescheduling dates.
Minnesota's next scheduled game is Sunday at home against Iowa. There’s no word yet on the status of that game.
This isn’t the first time COVID has affected the Gopher basketball team. In January of 2022, the Gopher game at Penn State was postponed because of COVID within the Minnesota program.
The Gophers are currently 7-15 but have struggled mightily in the Big Ten at just 1-11. They were beat by Maryland Saturday and were playing with just eight scholarship players due to injuries.
