The Hill-Murray boy's hockey high school hockey team has forfeited their state tournament game against Wayzata after a Washington County judge dismissed their lawsuit against the Minnesota State High School League on Tuesday.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of nine players on the Hill Murray hockey team and looked to block the MSHSL from enforcing its COVID-19 guidelines. After the Pioneers beat White Bear Lake in their section final on March 24, one of White Bear Lake's players tested positive for COVID-19.
"These situations are difficult for everyone involved and when the experience impacted is in our State Hockey Tournament, it is magnified even more. We would love to have a full tournament bracket for this iconic event, and these interruptions are frustrating and incredibly unfortunate,” said Erich Martens, MSHSL Executive Director.
Hill Murray argued that the exposure to the player was limited and they were not at-risk. According to the lawsuit, Wayzata had agreed to reschedule Wednesday's game to Thursday in order to accommodate Minnesota Department of Health guidelines concerning eligibility after exposure.
Wayzata advances to the semifinals to play the winner of Wednesday's game between Moorhead and Lakeville South.
