The Minnesota Lynx introduced the newest member of their squad Wednesday at Mayo Clinic Square in downtown Minneapolis - number two overall pick Olivia Miles.

Miles comes in with high praise, says Lynx broadcaster Sloane Martin, who also spent time working in the WCCO Radio newsroom.

"Olivia is a magician with the basketball, the kind of vision, the jaw-dropping passes, the IQ that she possesses that just starts to scratch the surface of the kind of talent she is, and the impact that she can have," Martin explains.

It's not everyday the number two overall pick gets to join such a successful team. The Lynx are one of the league's most successful franchises with four title banners hanging in Target Center, and were among the most dominant across the WNBA the last two seasons.

"Not that rebuilding is an issue, but to head into somewhere where you know you can compete for a championship right away is rare," Miles said.

And she gets to learn from Hall of Famer Lindsay Whalen, a former Gopher star who helped guide those Lynx teams to four championships. Whalen is now an assistant coach under head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve.

"Get ready because you're going to be tired of me a little bit because I'm going to ask so many questions and just be open minded," Miles, a point guard, said about Whalen.

Who is Olivia Miles off the court?

She's a nature lover. A game film, and data junkie. She has a cat and is a self-described video game nerd.

But most importantly she strives for social justice, and she said being in Minnesota is perfect for her.

"I'm excited to again, join a franchise and a culture who aligns with me and my beliefs," Miles explains. "And gives me a platform to spread, you know, whatever message that I want to spread. So, I can't wait to meet the people in the community who will actually be impacted by me and my presence here."

The Lynx are scheduled to begin training camp this Sunday, April 19th.
