The name that hangs on the University of Minnesota's on-campus football stadium is changing, if a vote today by the Board of Regents goes as expected.
That would mean signage for Huntington Bank Stadium would be in place for the Gophers' season opener on September 2 against Ohio State.
The facility has been known as TCF Bank Stadium since opening in 2009.
A few months ago, Huntington Bancshares merged with TCF Financial Corporation, and the new company is rebranding as Huntington Bank.
University president Joan Gabel has recommended approval of the name change.
With the merger, Huntington takes over the TCF Bank naming rights contract, which was worth $35 million when it was signed in 2005.
The naming rights deal runs through 2030.
