One of pioneers of Black baseball is finally getting his own headstone, thanks to the Saint Paul Saints.
Phil Reid founded the Saint Paul Gophers in 1907 and was a community leader until his death in 1912.
He was buried in the Reid family plot at Oakland Cemetery, but the original headstone does not include his name.
The front side of the marker has the family name, and above it are names of Reid's first wife and brother.
Reid is buried to the left of the headstone, according to cemetery records, along side the two other family members.
Both his first wife Dinkey and brother George died before Reid, whose passing was marked by one of the grandest funeral processions in the city's history.
Historian Frank White was among those who contacted the Saints about the oversight.
The team arranged to create a new headstone, unveiled Tuesday at the cemetery.

"He was a very benevolent person," White said. "He was involved in politics, but he also took some of his money and he was a very giving individual."
It's not clear why Reid's name was not added to the headstone, although there are some who say there was a issue with his estate among other family members.
