After a testy back-and-forth last week, and not getting much time in the net during the playoff loss to St. Louis, the Wild and goalie Cam Talbot are going their separate ways.
The Minnesota Wild has acquired goaltender Filip Gustavsson from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Talbot in an announcement from the team Tuesday afternoon.
Gustavsson, 24 (6/7/98), appeared in 18 games (16 starts) with Ottawa last season and went 5-12-1 with a 3.55 goals-against average (GAA) and a .892 save percentage (SV%). He was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round (55th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft.
With the Wild, Talbot went 51-20-9 with a 2.71 GAA, a .913 SV% and five shutouts in 82 games during his two seasons in St. Paul.
After getting only one start in the six games against St. Louis, Talbot had expressed disappointment but said he understood the team’s decision.
Talbot’s agent had said to TSN last week that “Billy (Guerin) has a lot to think about.” But Guerin replied with a terse “I don’t have to do (expletive).”
Guerin certainly did something. Now Talbot is off to Ottawa and the Wild will move forward with Marc-Andre Fleury who signed a two-year, $7 million deal with Minnesota.
