As of noon on Saturday, the weather forecast has now-Hurricane Henri set to hit the Tri-State area beginning sometime Sunday morning, and likely to dump 3-6 inches of rain along with tropical storm force winds in the area depending on the final track of the storm.
For the Yankees, that means two things: The Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees are postponing Sunday's game. It will now be made up September 13th at 2:05pm. And the Yankees may have some travel issues getting to Atlanta to start their road trip on Monday night.
“Doesn’t look good. As of right now, it would look like it would be pretty surprising, but we’ll see how the next 24 hours unfold,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday morning when asked if he anticipated playing Sunday.
Minnesota is unlikely to be in the playoff picture, sitting 18 games back in the AL Central and 16 out of a Wild Card spot as of Saturday morning, but it could be an important game for the Yankees to make up. Sunday was scheduled to be the final game between the two teams this season, although they do have three mutual off-days.
September 2 would be a tough sell, as the Yankees would be headed home from the West Coast while the Twins would be en route from Minneapolis to Tampa, but they could meet on either Sept. 13 or 27, dates where the Twins would have to fly to New York in the midst of a homestand while the Yankees are in between shorter road trips (Mets and Orioles on the 13th, Red Sox and Blue Jays on the 27th).

Of course, by September 27, when both teams would have six games left, it could all be moot if the Yankees have either clinched a certain berth or been eliminated from contention.
As for the trip to Atlanta?
“Yeah, I was just kind of talking through that and seeing our options. It will probably be a little bit tricky. Stay tuned,” Boone said.
The Yankees and Braves would have an easier time making up Monday’s game if the team is unable to get south on Sunday; both teams are off Wednesday – the Yankees are headed west while the Braves have two days off in a row mid-homestand – so they could simply play a doubleheader on Tuesday, or even an afternoon game Wednesday to get the Bombers out to Oakland that afternoon.
