The roller coaster career of Bryon Buxton continues.
Three days after coming off the injured list and hours after it was announced he was third in outfield voting for the All-Star Game, the Twins center fielder is out of action again.
Buxton suffered a broken bone at the base of the pinky finger on his left hand when he was hit by a pitch in last night's game against Cincinnati.
"This isn't fair," said Twins manager Rocco Baldelli. "I feel immensely for him. No one should have to deal with what Buck is going through right now, a nd none of it is through any fault of his own."
It's officially called a "boxer's fracture" because it's a common injury for fighters, and Buxton is expected to miss at least several weeks.
He has already missed forty games this season with a hip injury.
During his career, Buxton has missed time with strained muscles, broken and dislocated bones, and back problems.
Buxton had four hits in 11 at-bats since his return last weekend, including an infield hit in Monday's 7-5 win at Target Field.
In 27 games this season, Buxton is batting .369 with ten home runs and 19 RBI.
He was American League player of the month for April.
