Tristan Gray hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and the Minnesota Twins added four more runs in the fifth on the way to a 9-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.

The Twins snapped a five-game losing streak. The White Sox had their five-game winning streak halted.

Gray's 384-foot shot over the wall in right field — his second career grand slam and first since the Twins' home opener on April 3 — gave Minnesota a 5-1 lead it never surrendered.

Trevor Larnach hit an RBI single in the first to get the Twins on the board. Austin Martin and Victor Caratini added one-run singles in the fifth before Luke Keaschall and Gray each drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to stretch Minnesota's lead to 9-4.

Joe Ryan (4-3) allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings with nine strike outs. Travis Adams allowed two runs in the ninth before closing out the win.

Despite the win, Ryan wasn't happy with his overall performance.

"I think there's some other things that could have gone differently and trying to just probably mix things up when we didn't need to be doing that," he said after the game. "And adding things in that we haven't done all year, and just kind of changing the plan at times. I think it just limits the innings there. I think I was probably in a nice spot to go a couple more innings and, yeah, just certain things didn't go the way that we probably should have stuck to."

But Twins manager Derek Shelton said after losing five straight to end their recent 10-game road trip, it was time to get back into the win column no matter what.

"Good win to get back in front of our home fans and play a good baseball game," Shelton added. "We did a lot of things well, had some big timely hits, but overall, good win for us."

Miguel Vargas homered twice for the White Sox. He had a pair of two-run shots, in the third and ninth, finishing 3 for 5 with four RBIs. Andrew Benintendi had an RBI single in the third to tie the game at 1 and added a solo homer in the fifth.

David Sandlin (1-1) took his first loss of the year, giving up eight runs on eight hits in four innings with four strikeouts.

Twins acquire righty reliever Justin Lawrence from Pirates for cash

Twins acquired right-handed reliever Justin Lawrence from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash on Monday night.

The 31-year-old Lawrence was 0-2 with a 5.32 ERA in 23 appearances for the Pirates this season. He was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on Friday.

Lawrence debuted with Colorado in 2021 and spent four seasons with the Rockies before Pittsburgh claimed him off waivers in March 2025. He has a 5.05 ERA over 222 major league appearances, all in relief.

The Panama-born Lawrence was a 12th-round pick by the Rockies in the 2015 amateur draft. He appeared in 69 games for Colorado in 2023 and had a 3.72 ERA and 11 saves. Last season, he allowed one run in 17 2/3 innings for the Pirates for an ERA of 0.51.

To open a spot for Lawrence, the Twins will make a roster move before Tuesday night's game against the visiting Chicago White Sox.
