According to reports, the Minnesota Vikings appear to be parting ways with their Pro-Bowl running back Dalvin Cook after six seasons in Minnesota.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero shared the news on Twitter, noting that the Vikings would be releasing Cook, making the 27-year-old a free agent.
Cook has put up monster numbers with Minnesota, leaving as the franchise's third all-time rusher, behind other Vikings greats Adrian Peterson and Robert Smith.
The move was expected following the team’s decision to re-sign running back Alexander Mattison to a two-year deal worth up to $8 million.
During the 2022-23 season, Cook recorded his fourth straight 1,000-yard season. In his career, he has 52 touchdowns and over 1,500 touches. He is now expected to receive offers from numerous teams, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Cook’s contract would have taken up $14.1 million in cap space for 2023, and he was due to earn $11 million if he spent the season with the Vikings.
The Vikings have yet to confirm the transaction.
