The Minnesota Timberwolves are returning to the airwaves of WCCO, and the Audacy app, in 2026-2027.
In a deal just announced, the Wolves new home for radio broadcasts will be 830 WCCO and the Audacy App, starting with the preseason opener October 5th in Milwaukee. All six preseason games will be heard on WCCO this year.
The Timberwolves previously were on WCCO from 2011–12 through the 2022–23 NBA seasons.
“As we navigate the complex broadcast landscape, we couldn’t be more excited to return to WCCO Radio,” said a statement from Timberwolves and Lynx Chief Strategy Officer Kelly Laferriere. “WCCO Radio has one of the largest coverage areas in the country and we’re looking forward to WCCO being able to bring the upcoming season of Timberwolves basketball to fans and listeners throughout Minnesota.”
Games will once again feature Alan Horton on the call, and will include both a 30-minute pregame, and 30-minute postgame show. It's Horton's 20th season calling Wolves basketball. Cal Soderquist also returns to handle pre- and postgame shows.
Also coming for the 2026-27 season are weekly check-ins with both the Timberwolves coach, Chris Finch, and Senior VP of Basketball Operations, Matt Lloyd who will join WCCO's Chad Hartman Show.
“There’s something special about hearing Minnesota basketball on the station that has been part of this community for generations, and we can’t wait to provide fans a front-row seat to all the energy, excitement and drama of another great Wolves season,” said Debbie Kenyon, Regional President, Audacy.
Led by superstar guard Anthony Edwards, a franchise-defining golden era, a playoff success story they have never experienced in their history. The Timberwolves are coming off a Western Conference semifinals loss to San Antonio, and lost in the Western Conference Finals the previous two seasons. Once again, the Wolves are expected to be one of the top teams in a loaded Western Conference.
The Wolves also remade the roster this past offseason, moving forwards Julius Randle and fan-favorite Naz Reid, and trading for exciting young point guard LaMelo Ball. They also added forward Jonathan Kuminga, and re-signed last year's trade target Ayo Dosunmu to join Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Rudy Gobert, and the core of the Wolves team.
“I’m going to miss Naz, for sure. That’s my brother, but I’m super happy about the changes in the locker room,” Edwards said Monday at Timberwolves Media Day. “Just a bunch of different mentalities, personalities. I think it’s going to mesh well together.”
WCCO is also the exclusive home of Minnesota Twins baseball.
