For the first time since the pandemic began, the Twins' schedule has been affected, with Saturday and Sunday games against the Angels in Anaheim postponed.
Two Twins players tested positive for COVID, one of them Kyle Garlick, and it's not known how the situation will affect the team's upcoming series at Oakland.
The Twins and A's are scheduled to play Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
The Twins continued to play their scheduled game Friday when they had first found out someone within the team had tested positive. The cancelations allow more time to contact trace and make sure more members of the team aren’t at risk.
It was announced earlier that the Twins had a positive COVID case but no specifics were given about who it was and what personnel grouping the person fell into and despite the positive test the MLB felt it was safe to continue the game. Now, however, they do not.
It seemed as if this was expected, the Twins were waiting around for some type of news during batting practice. No players were taking the field like usual during their scheduled batting practice time in Anaheim, and instead were sitting around.
Twins Manager Rocco Baldelli announced that Kyle Garlick and another player have tested positive for COVID-19. This is in addition to another staff member and Andrelton Simmons who tested positive earlier this week.
