11 people were arrested Monday after storming Morrill Hall on the University of Minnesota campus in the Twin Cities.

They were part of a larger group of pro-Palestinian protesters calling on the University to divest from companies that support Israel.

Max was part of the protests and spoke to WCCO-TV.

"You are showing a bias if you're refusing to speak a word about what's happening to the Palestinians, but you are still sending money to Israel," he said. "You are picking a side, you are showing what side you land on."

University officials sent out an emergency alert as the group damaged property and restricted access to and from the building.

"coming to university is about broadening your worldly view," Max added. "And this is the best way I can see to do that. This is what matters to me, and I'm willing to put it at risk."

Charges for those arrested include probable cause, riot trespassing and property damage.

One of those individuals is being held on an additional charge of fourth degree assault of an officer.

Organizers say the University of Minnesota community will hold a press conference Tuesday morning to call for those arrested to be released with charges dropped.

The group claims they were occupying Morill Hall to rename it Halimi Hall after Mido Halimi, a 19-year old TikTok creator killed in an apparent Israeli airstrike back in August.
