The Derek Chauvin trial is set to begin on Monday as the fifteenth juror has been seated.
Judge Peter Cahill says 14 is all the court has room for, but he wanted an “insurance alternate” to ensure 14 are assembled for Monday’s opening statements.
Juror 131 is an accountant and sports fan who opposes athletes kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial inequality. He said he believed the length of time Chauvin had his knee on Floyd was “unnecessary” and that there is discrimination in the criminal justice system.
He will be released on Monday as long as none of the other 14 jurors drop out before Monday's trial start.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
