A new website allows Minnesotans to help report fraud in state government.
House Fraud and Oversight committee chair Kristin Robbins says it's a secure website to allow whistleblowers to file reports confidentially.
"Maybe they work in an agency, maybe they're a service provider, maybe they're a person who receives services," Robbins (R-Maple Grove) told Vineeta Sawkar on the WCCO Morning News.
After posting to MNFraud.com, staffers will contact the person making the claim and begin looking into it. The information would be referred to the appropriate authorities, including law enforcement agencies.
"We don't want people to think (that) we'll be firing people," Robbins said about what she called a "small" website staff. "We do not have the authority."
The site launched Monday morning, and was already fairly active.
"By the time we hit the floor, we probably had a dozen or more," said Robbins.
“Minnesotans expect their government to be well-run and want to ensure their tax dollars are used to provide services to people in need,” said Rep. Robbins. “MNFraud.com gives state employees, service providers, recipients and the public a convenient, secure way to report suspected fraud.”
Information submitted through the site will be reviewed by the staff of the House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee.
The information, including the identities of whistleblowers, is secure and protected, similar to a secure-payment processing website.
