Police in Hopkins are on the scene of a incident involving a child care center.

One man is dead, along with a woman and child in what police called an isolated incident.

Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson said that all of the victims appear to be part of one family, but he declined to say how the victims died. He said he didn’t know the relationship between the two adults who owned the daycare, but the child who died is believed to be theirs.

"This is a horrific tragic situation for any community, especially here in Hopkins where we don't see this type of crime," Chief Johnson explains. It's a rarity here in Hopkins. We're a very safe community and the impact is felt not only here but elsewhere for every parent who has a child in a daycare setting or anywhere."

There were six other children in daycare who all have been reunited with their family. There are no other reported injuries.

There's no worse scenario than this, where you drop off your child to somewhere you think is safe, and you get that phone call," Johnson added. "I think we can all relate who have children and those who don't, that this is just a tragic situation anywhere in the world."

The incident took place just after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday and police believe the man was the perpetrator. The man and woman, who were in a relationship of some sort, owned the daycare, and both lived in the home. Police did not share any information on weapons or the nature of injuries.

He said his officers were shaken by the scene they found inside the home.

“I could see on the look on their faces that this was one of those ones that you’ll remember for your entire career, if not life,” Johnson said.

There is also a planned update from Hopkins City Hall at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

The daycare was located in the 200 block of Tyler Avenue North, and there was a massive police presence in the area.
