Activists and Minneapolis City leaders are calling for an immediate cease fire to end the war in Israel.
The goal is simple: End the war in Israel.
"Calling for a ceasefire is not a major step. Calling for a ceasefire is the least we can do," says Jaylani Hussein, Executive Director of CAIR Minnesota.
The resolution to be voted on Monday by Minneapolis City Council members condemns the genocide of Palestinians.
"It is a fact that the State of Israel is committing a genocide against Gazans. I believe that it has to end," says Ward 10 Council Member and co-author of the resolution Aisha Chugai.
More than 20,000 Palestinians have killed since the war began October 7.
There are also millions of Minnesotan tax payer dollars helping fund the war in Israel and there were activists and Minneapolis City leaders saying this has to stop and the money needs to be spent locally.
"The vast majority of people know that we do not want our tax dollars going towards bombs and going towards death and genocide in Palestine," explained Walter Fromm Take Action MN. "We want our tax dollars going towards affordable housing, and affordable healthcare, and making sure that our planet is livable for generations to come."
Minneapolis City Council members will vote on Monday to pass the resolution, which will include a formal letter that will be submitted to Federal leaders to take action.
