Another air quality alert is set to kick in at noon today and run through Thursday night, according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

It’s an orange alert for the central and southern parts of the state, including the Twin Cities, meaning the air will be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

What’s different about this one is the fact that it’s not being caused by Canadian wildfires. Instead, according to the experts, our sunshine, warm temperatures, and low humidity will create an environment for ground-level ozone, particularly in the afternoon.

Earlier this month, Meteorologist Matt Taraldsen shared with News Talk 830 WCCO that breathing poor air can be a risk for many.

“Basically what happens is that, because of the pollutants in the air, your body has to work harder to get oxygen to itself, and that stress on the body can aggravate things like asthma or high blood pressure or heart disease,” Taraldsen said.

Limiting exposure to outside air when the air quality is poor is key.
