WCCO-TV is reporting that a 15-year-old boy was shot Wednesday afternoon in north Minneapolis. The reports says the boy is currently in the hospital.
WCCO Radio and TV’s Mike Max says that the victim is a sophomore at North Community High School, and a member of the Polars football team.
On his WCCO Radio show Max explained what he had been told by a source.
“I got a call, and there’s a young man, by all accounts a really good young man,” Max explains. “He’s an athlete, loved by his teammates and friends. And tonight he is fighting for his life because he was shot. When you talk to someone that is his coach, and you hear in the voice this feeling as I did, of exhaustion, of asking when it is going to end. There are no answers.”
At this time the victim has not been named.
In a post on their Facebook page, Minneapolis Public Schools released this statement:
"Our MPS community is grieving tonight after one of our students and one of our bus drivers were the victims of gun violence in two separate incidents. Investigations are currently underway and until we have more information, we are not sharing specifics.
For now, we recognize the deep impact this has on our students, staff and families. Our thoughts tonight are especially with the victims’ families during this difficult time."
The shooting happened at about 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Penn Avenue North and Golden Valley Road. WCCO-TV is reporting that authorities are seeking a suspect after they fled on foot.
