We are learning more about a fatal hit-and-run in Maplewood this week with the arrest of the driver, and now pending murder charges for a 34-year old woman from Minneapolis. Those charges could come sometime on Friday.
Investigators on the scene on Wednesday called it horrific. 23-year old Zakirrah Anderson of Minneapolis was hit by the car and dragged more than two city blocks by the woman she had allegedly been in a fighting with earlier.
"One of the Minnesota State Troopers I was on scene with that does crash reconstructions said that, you know, in his approximately 20-year career, this is the worst vehicle crash where someone has been drug the longest distance," Maplewood Police spokesperson Joe Steiner explained. "So, I mean, like I said, it's tragic. It's senseless and it shouldn't have happened."
Steiner says they were able to locate the vehicle and suspect quickly with the help of many several agencies.
The incident t happened at Larpenteur Avenue and Deter street around 9:20 Wednesday night. Steiner says there was some kind of a fight between two groups of women which then escalated into what he described as a horrific scene.
"Fortunately, we were able to put the puzzle pieces together rather quickly which helped us identify a suspect vehicle and a suspect," Steiner told WCCO Radio.
A second victim was hospitalized but is expected to fully recover.
