A woman who was kidnapped and sexually assaulted in Roseville last week is recovering, while Roseville Police announced the arrest and charging of the man they say was responsible for it on Monday.
The woman was leaving her office last Wednesday when a man confronted her with a gun and wearing a mask.
Investigators say the man, 41-year-old Pao Yang, took her to nearby woods, where he wrapped tape around her eyes and mouth and zip-tied her hands behind her back.
According to the criminal complaint, Yang told her that if she struggled, he would kill her.
He then left her there, but returned, and took her to a warehouse where he raped her and then held her for eight hours. She was later released.
"A crime like this is horrific," Roseville Police Erika Scheider said. "It's almost unimaginable, and we can't lose sight of that behind this case there's a victim and a family who are profoundly impacted by what happened. Our thoughts remain with the victim and we'll continue to do everything we can to support her."
She says investigators worked around the clock to track down the suspect.
"They checked businesses, residences, and just about any camera that we could find," Scheider added. "Ultimately, a significant breakthrough came on Friday afternoon where detectives were able to trace the clothes, clothing, that the victim was forced to wear back to a Target store in Blaine."
Yang was arrested Friday, and faces charges including felony assault and kidnapping. Prosecutors requested a $2.5 million bail.
