The Basilica Block Party has decided to require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours of attendance this year.
The outdoor live show outside the Minneapolis Basilica is scheduled for September 10th and 11th.
Holly Dockendorf, Special Events Coordinator, Basilica Block Party, said in a statement:
“The Basilica Block Party celebrates live music and how we experience it together. Our goal is to provide a safe and fun event for everyone. We felt implementing these entry protocols provides the safest way for our community to gather. We are thrilled to be back on September 10 & 11.”
They will not require masks, but are saying “they are strongly encouraged”.
The concert promotor is Live Nation, the same group that put on Lollapalooza in Chicago three weeks ago. That festival also required a vaccine or negative test. Local health officials said those guidelines helped to limit the spread of COVID and the large gathering of almost 400,000 people.
In Chicago, they estimated that around 200 people tested positive afterwards, a miniscule 0.05%.
The Basilica Block Party is implementing these guidelines on the heels of the State Fair saying they are not going to require those same things, or mandate masks in indoor or crowded spaces.
It’s a much younger, hipper lineup for the Basilica this year. The lineup includes AJR, Motion Soundtrack and Tate McCrae on Friday night followed by the Avett Brothers, Spoon and Black Pumas on Saturday.
