Blood supplies are still below pre-pandemic levels at blood banks, and officials there are urging people to donate.

Especially on this particular Monday.

September 11th.

22 years after the terrorist attacks that killed thousands in New York, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon

"One of the tragic things in our history is what happened on September 11th," said Wendy Capetz of the Memorial Blood Centers, which has nine donation sites in Minnesota.

"As a way to honor those folks (who died) and to make sure our community stays healthy and prepared for whatever tragedy might happen next, we need a health blood supply," Capetz told WCCO's Laura Oakes.

Capetz says donating blood on any day is a way to honor our community, and the spirit of rallying around one another.

She says if you're uneasy about donating blood, you can always help by volunteering at the Memorial Blood Centers around the Twin Cities metro.

Records show blood levels at Memorial Blood Centers in Minnesota are at a five-day level.

They are especially in need of type O-negative, which can be used in any blood transfusion.
