No victims were found Monday in the rubble of the former Kmart building in Minneapolis as the Minneapolis Fire Department's investigation team and cadaver dogs from the Minnesota Task Force Urban Rescue Team searched the collapsed area.

Fire erupted at the building early Friday morning. Firefighters spent the day battling hot spots at the vacant building.

According to city officials, the city's investigation into the fire is complete and the origin and cause of the fire are undetermined. The city plans to move forward with demolishing the building.

The site of the story has always been controversial dating back to when it was built in the late 70's. The lot cut off Nicollet Avenue at Lake Street which many residents said ruined the neighborhood.

Since closing in 2020, the old Kmart lot has been fenced off for months with the city attempting to keep people from wandering on, or living on the property. There have been frequent issues with homeless encampments in the area.

The city added that the New Nicollet Redevelopment Project "remains on track" and that a survey to submit thought on a new roadway and public space remains open until 9 a.m. on November 15th.
