A woman who police say drove a car into a crowd in downtown Minneapolis early Saturday, killing a 16-year-old girl, remains in custody

Charges could be filed against the woman as early as Monday.

The crash at Fifth Street North at Hennepin Avenue happened just before 12-30 Saturday morning. In addition to the teen who was killed, five others were hurt and had to be hospitalized.

"There aren't words to describe how tragic and senseless it is," said Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara. "The video of this incident is absolutely horriffic."

The victim's mother says the girl wanted to one day become a nurse.

"She loved people, she loved animals, she loved disabled people, she loved the people that's been on the corner, anybody that was helpless, she wanted to help them," the woman said.

Five others were hurt in the crash and were taken to HCMC.

One of them, a 29-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.

Also hurt were two 14-year-old girls and two men, ages 24 and 28, and all are expected to survive.

The suspect was arrested on the 2300 block of Bryant Ave. North, with O'Hara saying tips from 911 callers helped police find the woman.
