Some call it another delay, others due diligence. But when it comes to the Minneapolis City Council's process for choosing a new site for the 3rd police precinct building, there still aren't answers.

The original building was destroyed in the George Floyd riots and has been empty since.

The Council has voted to approve a legislative directive for Mayor Jacob Frey to provide additional, detailed analysis on his site of choice which is 2600 Minnehaha Avenue.

"I appreciate the mayor's office and the administration for their willingness to do that and bring that forward, and I am optimistic that we can, as a body, make a decision on October 31st when we have all of these details before us," said Councilmember Andrew Johnson.

Council President Andrea Jenkins also told members "inaction is not progress" and they must continue to move forward and make a decision.

"I am supporting this resolution today to really try to move this forward," says Jenkins. "Inaction is not progress. We have to move forward. We have to. We call ourselves progressives and yet we continue to delay this process."
