Como Park Zoo and Conservatory can once again live up to its promise of being open every day of the year.
After shutting down because of coronavirus concerns, workers were able to install safety precautions at the venerable family attraction that dates back to 1897.
The weather was brisk on Monday morning and so was the lining up of people who missed the indoor warmth of the conservatory and up-close contact of lions, tigers, polar bears, gorillas, and seals.
“During the cold weather months, it’s nice to get inside and see some of the beautiful things we have in this state,” said Brent Brummer, who was spending his birthday taking in the flower and fauna.
Despite the weather, families showed up with bundled-up children in strollers, just like they would do any of those 365 days the zoo and conservatory are open.

“We come every week,” said Allison Schaub, who added the trips remain on the schedule for her and her young daughter.
“Oh yeah, for sure,” Schaub said. “She just loves the animals… I just like somewhere to go.”
Both the zoo and conservatory have one-way walking paths that start at the visitor’s center and winds its way through the grounds.
Reservations must be made online, and masks are required for everyone.
Also, in the long tradition of Como Park Zoo and Conservatory… admission is free, and there is a place to make donations.
