COVID-19 testing will no longer be offered at the Minneapolis Convention Center starting on Saturday, as a new testing site will be opened in St. Paul.
The new COVID-19 testing site is set to open at the old Herbergers building on University Avenue in the state's capital.
With the shuffling of the testing site from Minneapolis to St. Paul, health officials shared that they will be able to conduct more tests than before, somewhere in the range of 5,000 per day.
Devin Henry, the deputy communications director for the state's covid response, said this is a reallocation of resources, not a divestment in testing.
"This really is an example of us looking at that network and figuring out where to move those resources in the way that works best," Henry said.
Another added bonus is that the testing center won't be at the mercy of the convention center's hectic schedule, which resulted in the closing on occasion for events.
The new site, located at 1400 University Avenue West, will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Henry says those looking for a COVID test should go to mn.gov/COVID19 to get a full look at their options.
