Craig initially won the seat during the 2018 midterms after running against Republican incumbent Jason Lewis. She is only the third Minnesotan to hold the seat since 2003, when John Kline first won it.

At the point of her election in 2018, she was also the first Democrat to win the seat since former Rep. Bill Luther did so in 2003.

Craig faced a tough challenger in Kistner, who is a US Marine veteran, but invariably held out and will now serve her second term in office.
