DFL State Senator John Hoffman has announced he is running for reelection.
The 60-year old and his wife, Yvette, were shot in their Champlin home in June in what is being called a politically motivated attack by the alleged shooter, Vance Boelter.
Along with the Hoffmans, House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were assassinated in their Brooklyn Park home that same day, and several other state lawmakers were allegedly targets as well.
In announcing his reelection campaign on social media, Hoffman posted that Minnesotans are "tired of the vitriol," and that the Hoffmans, have "seen first hand where hate and dehumanization can lead," adding that his family survived it.
Hoffman was first elected to his District 34 seat in 2012 and has won reelection three times.
"Leadership matters. Decency matters. Speaking up matters," Hoffman continued to say in his announcement. "I am seeking re-election to keep leading with dignity. "
In the shooting this past summer, Hoffman was shot nine times, his wife eight times. After three weeks in the ICU, in July 2025, Hoffman was released from the hospital and transferred to a rehabilitation facility to continue recovering.
