Disturbing allegations of child abuse in the Minneapolis Public School District.
Aja Cobbs alleges her 10-year-old son King, who is non-verbal and autistic, was physically abused by a bus aid last Friday. She says her son alerted her about his injuries after getting off the bus.
Cobb said when she picked up from the bus, the scene quickly turned chaotic.
"She was hysterical and the bus driver also started talking loud and trying to say things," Cobb said. "It was hard for me to understand either of them."
Cobbs says her son later alerted her to bruises on his body.
"He said, 'ma' and pointed," Cobbs explains. "I sat him on the hallway stairs, took pictures and sent it to his teacher."
She then called the Riverbend Education Center, Minneapolis Public Schools, and filed a police report before taking King to the emergency room.
"The doctor realized that one of the bruises was a bite and she made a report with Child Protective Services," Cobb said Thursday.
Rashad Turner is with the Minnesota Parent Union who are helping Cobbs shed light on the allegations.
"We're asking parents in Minneapolis and even across the state, because we know this is a bigger issue than this alleged abuse that took place here, so we're asking parents to speak up, raise their hand if they need support," says Turner.
In a statement, Minneapolis Public Schools officials say they takes these allegations seriously, they're committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of students, and have launched an internal investigation.
