Authorities are investigating a threat directed at Elk River High School which led to an evacuation.
Police say out an abundance of caution, students at the high school were evacuated as they investigate the credibility of the threat.
"The safety and security of our students and staff at Elk River High School are our top priorities," a statement from the school said. "We are actively working in close coordination with the Elk River Police Department to investigate a threat specifically directed at Elk River High School and to assess its credibility. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of everyone in our school community, we will be evacuating the building at 10:45 am."
They add there's been a lot of rumors, and that misinformation spreads quickly, especially on social media. They are asking students to avoid spreading unverified information.
Police are also asking that anyone with specific details regarding a potential threat to report it to law enforcement and the school immediately.
After school activities have been cancelled.
