Fresh off the successful prosecution of Derek Chauvin, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is not saying whether he's had conversations with Governor Walz about prosecuting Kim Potter.
Potter is the former Brooklyn Center Officer who shot and killed Daunte Wright earlier this month. Potter, who says she mistook her firearm for her taser, has been charged with 2nd degree manslaughter by Washington County Attorney Pete Orput.
"I think that Pete Orput is a seasoned prosecutor," Ellison told WCCO's Chad Hartman Tuesday. "(He) has a history holding people accountable, no matter who they are, whether they are law enforcement or not. I believe that the case is in good hands."
Activists have called on Governor Walz to turn the case over to Ellison, arguing that Orput has not had a history of prosecuting police officers. Protesters over the weekend gathered outside Orput's house, and at one point Orput came out and defended his record.
