Emergency funds to help pay heating bills are now available for those who qualify for Minnesota's energy assistance program.

"We want to make sure over the long run that people have the ability to have lower bills," said Minnesota commerce commissioner Grace Arnold.

The funds can be used to pay for furnace repairs and home winterizing.

"These are improvements that help keep you warm, safe, and healthy," said Arnold. "It also can reduce your energy costs by about thirty percent."

Governor Walz says it's a basic human right to have your home warm enough in Minnesota winters.
