On this 40th anniversary of the release of Prince's iconic "Purple Rain", a special show at First Avenue takes places this Saturday.

A picture of you and thousands of Prince fans all singing his songs, together in the room where he first performed them at First Avenue? That's the plan Saturday at the concert venue where the album was firsts performed, and the movie was set in.

"You know, we've done all sorts of different Prince events over the years, and this one I would say stands apart from just your typical having a band onstage covering Prince music," says First Ave's General Manager Nate Kranz. "But, actually getting the audience to be able to participate."

Kranz says the Toronto based Choir, Choir, Choir! is coming at the right time.

"This is, of course, a big year for all of us Prince fans and all of us First Ave fans as it's the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain," Kranz says.

Tickets are $25 and the show is Saturday at 8:00 p.m. in the main room.

Purple Rain was originally released on June 25, 1984 and made the Minneapolis-born singer, songwriter and guitarist one of the biggest musical stars in the world. The album spent 24 consecutive weeks atop on the Billboard 200, was certified thirteen times Platinum and has sold around 25 million copies making it one of the best selling albums of all-time.
