One of the Washington County prosecutors who, up until last week, was handling the case against former Brooklyn Center Police Officer Kim Potter, has resigned.
In a resignation letter, Imran Ali cites "vitriol" and "partisan politics" as reasons he's leaving his post.
Ali, along with Washington County Attorney Pete Orput, filed charges of second-degree manslaughter against Potter, the former officer who shot and killed Daunte Wright on April 11th.
The former Brooklyn Center police chief says Potter mistook her firearm for her taser when she shot Wright during a traffic stop.
Activists demanded that murder charges be filed against Potter, and they even showed up outside Orput's home to protest.
Last week, Governor Tim Walz asked Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to take over prosecution of the case.
