Former Minnesota Vikings center Matt Birk joined The Morning News with Dave Lee on Tuesday morning to talk about the rumor going around that he is interested in running for Minnesota Governor in 2022.
"I think, right now, what I'm doing is...I'm at a point in my life where I want to try to do something to try to give back, to serve and figuring out what might be the best way to do that," Birk said. "What are my skills? What are my gifts? What do I feel called to do? Obviously it's a pretty charged environment right now politically and all other ways. It's something, that I would say, very, very early on kind of exploring and having some conversations."
Birk has not been shy about voicing his political opinions through the media and on his social media pages. Birk penned an opinion piece against same-sex marriage in 2012. Birk also famously refused to join his Super Bowl winning Baltimore Ravens teammates to the White House when President Obama was in office.
The former Pro Bowl Center says that while the conversations are happening, he's not sure what his next move will be.
"Like my previous 44 years of my life I have no idea where it's going. And I'm OK with that. We'll figure it out and whatever path I'm supposed to take will become clear."
