National Weather Service: EF-2 tornado that hit Forada was a half mile wide

Cleanup continues across Minnesota following powerful Memorial Day storms in on Monday that produced at least four tornadoes according to the National Weather Service officials.

In Forada, a powerful EF-2 tornado left behind a trail of destruction. NWS officials said on Tuesday that the tornado reached wind speeds of 120 MPH and that the path was a half-mile wide.


Douglas County Emergency Management officials said Tuesday that between 75 and 100 structures, including homes, were damaged or destroyed.

No deaths or injuries were reported in any of the storms.

Three other tornadoes were confirmed by NWS survey teams. Eagle Bend was hit by an EF-1 in central Minnesota, while Plato was also hit by an EF-1 southwest of the metro.

Damage between Applewood and Glenwood in southwestern Minnesota was caused by an EF-0/EF-1 tornado.
