Gazelka "leaning toward" run for governor

Senate Majority Leader says decision will likely come at end of State Fair

Could Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka soon be in the race for governor? His answer to WCCO Radio's Chad Hartman certainly would indicate he will be.

"I would tell you I'm leaning closer to it than against it," Gazelka (R Nisswa) told Hartman Friday. "I can't wait to be out at the State Fair, frankly, and talk to the many, many people that will be out there. I would expect I will make a decision not long after that"

A handful of Republicans have declared their candidacy for the nomination to run against Governor Tim Walz, the most prominent being former state senator and physician Scott Jensen.

Gazelka says the people he talks to want a change in the governor's office.

"For the last four weeks I've traveled all around the state, from Minneapolis, to East Grand Forks, and Thief River Falls, Bemidji, down south, just to see what people care about, and (if there is) an appetite to remove Governor Walz. I can tell you, there absolutely is."
