He's been a teacher. A football coach. Served in Congress. For two terms now, the Governor of Minnesota. Now Tim Walz is thinking about his next phase, now that he's not running for a third term in St. Paul. And becoming an author is one of his next projects.
Walz is working on a book inspired in part by a massive immigration enforcement surge earlier this year and the local pushback towards "Operation Metro Surge."
“Last winter, Minnesotans from all walks of life showed up for one another with compassion, courage and resilience,” Walz, a Democrat, said in a statement.
Walz says Minnesotans showed compassion, courage and resilience during the events. As governor of course, Walz was a prominent critic of ICE’s actions in the state, which included the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis earlier this year.
“Here in Minnesota, it’s simple — we call it being a good neighbor," added Walz. "I’ve always been fascinated by the ways in which we keep community in America, and how we interweave our lives.”
Minnesota is suing the federal government, alleging ICE caused over $600 million in damages across the state.
Walz, 62, became a national figure in 2024 after Vice President Kamala Harris chose him as her running mate in what was eventually a losing effort against President Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance.
A Norton spokesperson declined to comment on whether Walz will write about the campaign, saying no additional information beyond the press release was currently available.
It's been a busy couple of weeks for Walz, who has been meeting with legislative leaders with the session coming to an end in the next couple of weeks, and plenty of work still to be done on a bonding bill and more. He also has launched a "Small Town PAC," looking for the next generation of political leadership in rural communities.
Walz also appeared Wednesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he again talked about the surge of immigration enforcement in Minnesota, and his return to teaching once his term as governor comes to an end.
