Coon Rapids Police and Anoka-Hennepin School District officials say officers may have averted a much larger tragedy after officers made several arrests and found several guns with a group that tried to get into a high school football game on Thursday night.
According to a police report, officers stopped a group of men and teenagers from getting into the Coon Rapids High School homecoming football game, and when the group tried to access the stadium another way, police escorted them off the premises. Someone reported to police that the group had a gun, and between the car the group had parked on the school property and another car across the street they used to try to drive away, police found a total of four guns. Officers stopped the second car from leaving.
Two men and two teenagers are in custody as of late Friday morning, according to police.
