With recreational marijuana becoming legal in Minnesota on August 1st, lots of people are looking into how to grow their own pot plants.
"You need a tent if you're growing indoors, you need lighting, you need ventilation, you need humidifiers, you're going to need soil," said Bridget Pinder, who owns Grounded Gardens in downtown St. Paul.
Oh, and one more thing.
"You're going to need seeds."
Unlike row crops like corn and soybeans, cannabis seeds are sold individually between $5 and $100 each.
Once they're in the ground, lots of hands-on care is needed.
"You have a vegitation cycle, where you're getting the plant 18 hours of light," Pinder said. "And you have a flowering cycle, where the plant is in 12 hours of light, and then it's growing its flower."
Pinder is offering classes on how to properly grow marijuana, along with all the necessary equipment.
She is also working with state officials to make marijuana seeds more affordable for growers in Minnesota.
"What's happening is, they're going to put every person in Minnesota that is a breeder out of business, with the parameters that they have right now," Pinder said. "We're working really hard with the seed side of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to get that right."
Prices for cannabis seeds from out-of-state are much cheaper than the Minnesota prices.
"Seeds are really expensive, plants are going to be even more."
Pinder said they'e already hearing from people interested in growing their own pot plants who've never gotten their hands dirty digging and planting.
She's expecting to hear back from those first-time growers coming back to her after their plants start dying, which is why her company is offering those how-to classes.
