Thursday night, Hennepin Arts unveiled the 11 shows that are coming to Minneapolis for the Broadway on Hennepin season.
Todd Duesing is president and CEO of Hennepin Arts.
"We like to frame ourselves as being the taste-testers of Broadway shows," Duesing says. "And so it's great for the touring productions to come here first and get a feel of how audiences react to shows, and we have a great local work crew here that really makes shows happen in a fantastic way."
Among the shows coming to Hennepin Avenue is the Tony Award-winning "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child". Also, back by popular demand, are "Chicago", "Les Miserables", and "Wicked".
"We're really thrilled to have 'Wicked' comeback, particularly with the popularity of the movies," Duesing explains. "Because there's a new generation of theatergoers that are seeing the films, and they can see both films into one stage production here."
Along with Harry Potter, another shows making a Minneapolis debut is "The Great Gatsby", and it all starts in late September with another debut, "A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical".
Another highlight is the revitalized production of Cameron Mackintosh’s legendary production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, promising "grandeur and spectacle like never before."
“This season exemplifies world-class theater’s role in drawing 400,000 visitors and cementing the arts as a cornerstone of Minnesota’s culture and economy,” said Duesing. “The arts have the unique ability to bring people together, spark creativity, and strengthen our connections, enriching both individuals and communities alike.”
The Broadway on Hennepin series begins in the fall and runs through next summer.
