Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson was sentenced to two-years probation on Monday after pleading guilty to fourth-degree DWI following a December 8 crash that sent him to the hospital.
As part of his probation, Hutchinson was ordered to complete a chemical assessment, have no alcohol or controlled substance violations, and submit to random testing.
Hutchinson avoided a 90-day jail sentenced which was stayed and was ordered to pay $610 in fines and fees.
He originally faced four misdemeanor charges including fourth-degree DWI, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 within two hours, and carrying a pistol under the influence of alcohol.
After the guilty plea, the remaining charges were dismissed and the weapons charge was ordered to be continued for dismissal at a later date.
Charges came after Hutchinson crashed his county-issued vehicle in the early morning hours of December 8. An investigation later revealed that his BAC was .13 which is above the .08 legal limit to drive in Minnesota.
Hutchinson reportedly returned to work last week.
